Truffle Oil Grilled Cheese (Print Version)

Melty sharp cheddar on golden sourdough, finished with fragrant truffle oil for a gourmet touch.

# What You'll Need:

→ Bread

01 - 4 slices sourdough or country-style bread

→ Cheese

02 - 5 oz sharp cheddar cheese, sliced or grated

→ Dairy & Oils

03 - 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
04 - 2 tsp truffle oil (white or black, to taste)

→ Seasonings

05 - Pinch of freshly ground black pepper (optional)

# Steps to Follow:

01 - Heat a large nonstick skillet or griddle over medium heat.
02 - Evenly butter one side of each bread slice.
03 - Place two bread slices, buttered side down, in the skillet. Layer the sharp cheddar cheese evenly on top, then sprinkle with black pepper if desired.
04 - Cover with remaining bread slices, buttered side up.
05 - Cook each side for 3 to 4 minutes, pressing gently, until the bread is golden brown and cheese is fully melted. Adjust heat to avoid burning.
06 - Remove from heat and let rest for 1 minute. Drizzle each sandwich with 1 teaspoon of truffle oil.
07 - Slice the sandwiches and serve immediately.

# Additional Tips::

01 -
  • It's ready in 15 minutes but tastes like you spent an hour in the kitchen.
  • The truffle oil takes something familiar and makes it feel like a small luxury you can give yourself on a Tuesday.
  • Sharp cheddar and buttery bread are a conversation—the truffle oil is just what they needed to say.
02 -
  • The truffle oil goes on after cooking, never before—heat destroys its delicate aromatics and you'll lose the whole point of using it.
  • Medium heat is non-negotiable; too high and your bread burns while the cheese stays cold, too low and it turns rubbery and pale.
03 -
  • Check your truffle oil bottle before you buy—some are more additive than truffle, and your taste buds will know the difference immediately.
  • Press gently, never hard, while cooking; too much pressure squeezes out the butter and leaves you with a dense, sad sandwich.
